My name is Chris War. Myself and my wife, Lou Anne, are currently serving as missionaries to the U.S. military in Aviano, Italy. For 20 years I served in the Navy. While Lou Anne and I were stationed in Rota, Spain, we were invited to attend Bethel Baptist Church, a military missions church supported by Baptist International Missions, Inc. In May 1984, after attending the church for the first time, we both accepted Christ as our personal Savior.
In June 1996, while Lou Anne and I were working at a Baptist youth camp, God called me to preach. In May 1997, Lou Anne and I began attending Independent Baptist Bible College, a ministry of Independent Baptist Church, in Clinton, Md. In May 1999, I retired from the Navy as a chief petty officer.
From 1999 to 2004 I served as assistant pastor at Patuxent Baptist Church, under Pastor Rick Conner.
In January 2004, during a missions conference at IBC, God called me to reach the U.S. military for Christ. I called and applied with BIMI as a missionary to the military.
In 2004, I graduated from IBBC with a major in pastoral theology. Lou Anne and I later started full-time deputation, which we completed in November 2005.
The same month we moved to Jacksonville, Fla., and started Freedom Independent Baptist Church in our home. After a couple weeks our neighbors began attending. I also drove Sailors to and from Naval Station Mayport every Sunday so they could attend services and have lunch with us.
In May 2006, God gave us an opportunity to rent a storefront building for our church which was located just over a mile from Naval Station Mayport. In February 2010, God allowed us to purchase our own church building to hold services. We went from a 900 sq. ft. storefront to an 8,800 sq. ft. standalone building.
During our seven years in Mayport, we saw more than 400 souls trust Christ as their Savior. I had the privilege of baptizing 84 converts as well.
In August 2012, God clearly spoke to my heart about moving to Italy to reach our service members and their families with the gospel, as well as the surrounding Italian community for Christ.
On May 5, 2013, I turned over FIBC to Pastor Bill Anker. We also started deputation to raise needed support to go to Italy. The same month I flew to Aviano to candidate here. I received a 100% call to pastor. In January 2014, we finished deputation and Lou Anne and I arrived in Italy.
CBC is near Aviano Air Base. The base is comprised of about 8,000 service members, their families, and many local nationals.
Lou Anne and I have three children: Meghan, Nicole and Donny, and three grandchildren: Jayden, Harper and Liberty.
